The Prophet (pbuh) has said that Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty1. It is for this that the whole of Allah's creation has been designed and created according to the highest heavenly standard of splendor and order impossible to be ever emulated by anyone. According to Ibn al-'Arabi, who epitomized the Sufi speculative ontological thought, the divine beauty through which God is named "Beautiful", and by which He described Himself as loving beauty, is in all things.<br />
<br />
There is nothing in existence but beauty, for God created the cosmos only in His image, that is, in the image of His infinite beauty. Hence all cosmos with all its objects and events is beautiful..<br />
<br />
Allah says on this: "Such is the Creation of Allah: now show Me what is there that others besides Him have created..." (Luqman 31:11).
<br />
<br />
"...(Such is) the artistry of Allah, Who disposes of all things in perfect order..." (al-Naml 27:88).

    9. عن حذيفة رضي الله عنه، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إن هذا ملك لم ينزل الأرض قط قبل هذه الليلة استأذن ربه أن يسلم عليّ و يبشّرني بأن فاطمة سيدة نساء أهل الجنة، وأن الحسن والحسين سيدا شباب أهل الجنة.<br />
<br />
Hudhaifah (ra) narrates that the Holy Prophet (saw) said, “There is an angel who before tonight had never come down to earth, asked permission from his Lord to offer slam (salutations) to me and to deliver the good news to me that Fatimah (sa) is the leader of all women of Paradise and Hasan (ra) and Husain (ra) are the leaders of all the youngsters in Paradise.”<br />

    10. عن علي ابن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال لفاطمة رضي الله عنها: ألا ترضين أن تكوني سيدة نساء أهل الجنة و ابناك سيدا شباب أهل الجنة.<br />

Ali (as), the son of Abu Talib, narrates that the Holy Prophet (saw) said to Fatimah (sa), “Are you not happy that you are the leader of all women in Paradise and both of your sons are leaders of all youth in Paradise.”<br />

    11. عن بن عباس رضي الله عنه، قال: خط رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في الأرض أربعة خطوط. قال: تدرون ما هذا؟ فقالوا: الله و رسوله أعلم. فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: أفضل نساء أهل الجنة: خديجة بنت خويلد، و فاطمة بنت محمد، و آسية بنت مزاحم امرأة فرعون، و مريم ابنة عمران رضي الله عنهن اجمعين.<br />

Abdullah bin Abbas (ra) narrates that the Holy Prophet (saw) drew four lines in the ground and asked, “Do you know what this is?” The companions replied, “Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (saw) know better.” Then the Holy Prophet (saw) said, “From the women of Paradise four are superior to others: Khadijah the daughter of Khuwaylid, Fatimah the daughter of Muhammad, Asiyah the daughter of Mazahim the wife of Pharaoh and Maryam the daughter of Imran (ra).”<br />

    12. عن صالح قال: قالت عائشة لفاطمة بنت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ألا أبشرك أني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: سيدات أهل الجنة أربع: مريم بنت عمران، و فاطمة بنت رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم، خديجة بنت خويلد، و آسية أمرأة فرعون.<br />
<br />
Salih (ra) narrates that Ayeshah (ra) said to Fatimah (sa), “Shall I not tell you some good news? I have heard the Holy Prophet (saw) say that only four women are the leaders of the women of Paradise: Maryam bint Imran, Fatimah bint Messenger of Allah (saw), Khadijah bint Khuwaylid and Pharaoh’s wife, Asiyah.”<br />

All Praise is due to Alláh, We praise Him and we seek help from Him. We ask forgiveness from Him. We repent to Him; and we seek refuge in Him from our own evils and our own bad deeds. Anyone who is guided by Alláh, he is indeed guided; and anyone who has been left astray, will find no one to guide him. I bear witness that there is no god but Alláh, the Only One without any partner; and I bear witness that Muhammad, peace and blessings on him, is His servant, and His messenger.</div>

In the opening verse of Sura An-Nisaa’, Allah says:</div>

Show reverence towards your Guardian-Lord Who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, his mate and from the two of them scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;― Be conscious of Allah, through Whom ye demand your mutual (rights) and (show reverence towards) the wombs (that bore you): for surely, Allah ever watches over you.”</div>

Two days ago was International Women’s Day. I thought it would be a good idea to dedicate this khutbah to our sisters, the women of Islam.</div>

In the verse I have just read, the opening verse of Sura Nisa, Allah commands us to “<u style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Show reverence towards the wombs that bore you, for surely, Allah ever watches over you</u>.”</div>

What does it mean, to show reverence? The dictionaries tell us that reverence is “deep respect.” Allah commands us to show deep respect to our mothers, our sisters and our daughters. I ask you, my dear brothers, are we doing so? Are we really treating our mothers, sisters and daughters with the same love and respect that we have for our fathers, our brothers and sons? Really?</div>

Look around you and you will see that there are some really appalling situations in many parts of the Muslim world. Our womenfolk are often treated very shabbily, not by others, but by their own fathers, brothers and sons. Their education is often neglected. This is wrong. Forced marriages and so called “honour killings” have also nothing to do with Islam. These are dishonourable tribal practices that are forbidden in our religion. Sadly, many of these abuses are still rampant, even amongst educated Muslims living in the West today.</div>

My dear brothers, we have to liberate ourselves from these backward, ancient tribal attitudes that Islam abolished over 14 centuries ago. It was common then to even bury newborn girls alive in those days. Sayyidna Omar, the 2<span style="border: 0px; bottom: 1ex; font-family: inherit; font-size: 10px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; height: 0px; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; vertical-align: baseline;">nd</span> Caliph of Islam, once laughed aloud and then sadness crossed his face, and tears rolled down his cheeks. A companion asked, “Ya Omar, why do you laugh, and why do you cry?” He replied: “I laugh because I remember the days before Islam, in the time of Jahiliyyah, when we were travelling and we got so hungry because we had no food. All we had was an idol of one of our gods, which we had made out of dates. We were so desperately hungry that we were forced to eat our god, or else we would starve, Our God couldn’t even save himself.” “And why did you cry?” “I cried because I also remember the time I buried my newborn daughter alive. My face was covered with dust from digging the grave. And as I put her down there, she looked up at me and I can still feel her tiny hand, gently wiping the dust from my face.”</div>

Dear brothers and sisters, this was Sayyidna Omar, a beloved Companion and Successor of Prophet Muhammad sws. It’s rather sad to read that in some parts of the world today, girl babies are still being killed and buried because the parents prefer boys. Islam banned this horrible custom over 1400 years ago.</div>

Rasool Allah sws declared that “<u style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">The best of you are the those who are best to their wives</u>.”</div>

If you read about the life of Rasool Allah, you may be surprised to learn that he mended his own clothes and shoes, he cooked, he cleaned, he helped with the housework. He played around with his wife and he was never too proud to do the most humble tasks.</div>

We men must stop being such chauvinists! There are many good aspects of the modern struggle for women’s rights: equal pay, equal opportunities and so on. But there are also some problems. Islam forbids same-sex marriage and relationships, transgender identities and so on. Islam doesn’t approve of men imitating women and women imitating men, confusing their identities. Men and women were created separate, distinct and complementary, not contradictory This was to fulfil a divine purpose. Our roles as brothers and sisters, husbands and wives should be there to complete and enhance family life and society as a whole. The purpose is to ensure the continuation of the human species, as true custodians, caretakers of Allah’s creation, <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">khaleefatullaah</em>. Allah created this world to serve us, and He created us to serve Him. As the Quran declares:</div>

At the end of the day, my dear brothers and sisters, this is what our whole life is all about: to serve Allah as believing men and believing women, in the right way as Allah alone deserves.</div>

Allahumma salli alá Muhammad, wa ala áli Muhammad, kama salayta ala Ibrahim, wa ala ali Ibrahim. Allahumma barik ala Muhammad, kama barakta ala Ibrahim, wa ala ali ibrahim. Fil ála meen, innaka hameedun majeed.”</em></div>

International Women’s Day seeks to draw attention to the long struggle for equal pay, equal rights before the law and equal respect for women everywhere. This is also a good time for Muslim men to reflect on how far we still have to go in challenging our own attitudes. Some of us have deeply entrenched tribal and cultural habits that are downright un-Islamic. We often boast about how Islam came to liberate women, give them rights of property ownership and inheritance, centuries before Christian Europe. But we have no right to point fingers at others when our own women still are carrying the heavy burden of tribal and cultural baggage.</div>

Our daughters have a right to education. They also have a right to work, to own businesses and to develop their God-given talents so that all humankind benefits. They have a right to be loved and respected no less than our sons. We seem to forget that the Mother of the Believers, Khadija, the Prophet’s first wife was also the first Muslim. She comforted him in his moments of distress. She reassured him in his moments of self-doubt. “Cover me, cover me!” he pleaded, shaking with fear and terrified after his first encounter with Jibreel. “<u style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Khadija, what is happening to me? I’m worried about myself</u>.”</div>

Khadija was not only his wife. She was also his employer. She owned property and ran a wealthy business. Many years after she died, he married another “Mother of the Believers,” Aisha bint Abu Bakr, who became one of the most important original sources of Islamic Law. A huge body of Hadith are attributable directly to her.</div>

Dear Brothers and sisters, there are so many great Muslim women who set us a shining example to follow. There was Aasiyah, Pharaoh’s wife, who refused to worship her husband as a god. For her defiance, she gave her life. She was tortured and put to death. In her dying moments Allah showed her a palace waiting for her in Al Jannah, and she smiled as the boulders smashed her body.</div>

Remember the purity and devotion of Nabi Isa, Jesus’ mother, Mariam/Mary. Allah devoted an entire Sura in the Holy Quran in her name.</div>

What about Rabia Al Adwiyya, from whose love for Allah we’ve learnt some of the most beautiful prayers? One day she prayed alone in her room, not realising that her she might be overheard. She said:</div>

O Allah, if I should worship you because I’m fearful of hell, then throw me into hell. But O Allah, if I should worship you because you alone deserve to be worshipped, then please, do not turn your Face away from me!</u>”</div>

Her employer, who wasn’t Muslim, overheard this beautiful duah and it turned his heart to Islam. Allah is “<em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">muqallibul quloob” </em>The Turner of Hearts. Remember the Prophetic prayer:</div>

There is a long list of Great Women in Islam. In the 9<span style="border: 0px; bottom: 1ex; font-family: inherit; font-size: 10px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; height: 0px; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; vertical-align: baseline;">th</span> Century, Fatima Al Fikhri had a big inheritance from her father, a wealthy merchant. Instead of splashing it out in the nearest shopping mall (or medieval <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">souk</em>), she built the largest mosque in North Africa, and the world’s oldest university and the oldest library in Fes, Morocco. This is the Al Qarawiyyeen University, library and mosque that still stand today. Imagine the immense <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">sadaka jaariya</em> of accumulated blessings over 1,200 years!</div>

Aleppo is in a mess today, but in the 10<span style="border: 0px; bottom: 1ex; font-family: inherit; font-size: 10px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; height: 0px; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; vertical-align: baseline;">th</span> Century you’d find Mariam Al Astrulabi there, an engineer and designer of astrolabes. On these interlocking brass disks she engraved maps of the stars. It was the  first satnav GPS system to find the qibla and to help travellers navigate over land and sea for many centuries.</div>

Let’s celebrate International Women’s Day every day, not just once a year! Let us show reverence for the wombs that brought us into this world. Let’s treat all women, everywhere, with the love and respect we owe them.</div>

Kata is a series of movements and techniques that are practiced in a pattern. Kata is similar to shadow boxing except each move is prearranged and choreographed in a geometrical pattern.<br />

Each kata is designed to teach a central principle or a set of common technique. Each kata is done at a certain speed and tempo. Some kata the speed varies from move to move while others are done at one speed and at one tempo. Through kata we learn proper stance, focus and transition between technique. </div>

Women in the Quran and the Sunnah

In Islam there is absolutely no difference between men and women as far as their relationship to Allah is concerned, as both are promised the same reward for good conduct and the same punishment for evil conduct. The Quran says:</div>

"And for women are rights over men similar to those of men over women." [Noble Quran 2:228]<br />

The Quran, in addressing the believers, often uses the expression, 'believing men and women' to emphasize the equality of men and women in regard to their respective duties, rights, virtues and merits. It says:<br />

"For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast, for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise, for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward." [Noble Quran 33:35]<br />

This clearly contradicts the assertion of the Christian Fathers that women do not possess souls and that they will exist as sexless beings in the next life. The Quran says that women have souls in exactly the same way as men and will enter Paradise if they do good:<br />
<br />
"Enter into Paradise, you and your wives, with delight." [Noble Quran 43:70]<br />
<br />
"Who so does that which is right, and believes, whether male or female, him or her will We quicken to happy life." [Noble Quran 16:97]<br />
<br />
The Quran admonishes those men who oppress or ill-treat women:<br />
<br />
"O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should you treat them with harshness, that you may take away part of the dowry you have given them - except when they have become guilty of open lewdness. On the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If you take a dislike to them, it may be that you dislike something and Allah will bring about through it a great deal of good." [Noble Quran 4:19]<br />
<br />
Considering the fact that before the advent of Islam the pagan Arabs used to bury their female children alive, make women dance naked in the vicinity of the Ka'bah during their annual fairs, and treat women as mere chattels and objects of sexual pleasure possessing no rights or position whatsoever, these teachings of the Noble Quran were revolutionary. Unlike other religions, which regarded women as being possessed of inherent sin and wickedness and men as being possessed of inherent virtue and nobility, Islam regards men and women as being of the same essence created from a single soul. The Quran declares:<br />
<br />
"O mankind! Reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, his mate, and from this pair scattered (like seeds) countless men and women. Reverence Allah, through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and reverence the wombs (that bore you); for Allah ever watches over you." [Noble Quran 4:1]<br />
<br />
The Prophet of Islam (Peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Women are the twin halves of men." The Quran emphasizes the essential unity of men and women in a most beautiful simile:<br />
<br />
"They (your wives) are your garment and you are a garment for them." [Noble Quran 2:187]<br />
<br />
Just as a garment hides our nakedness, so do husband and wife, by entering into the relationship of marriage, secure each other's chastity. The garment gives comfort to the body; so does the husband find comfort in his wife's company and she in his. "The garment is the grace, the beauty, the embellishment of the body, so too are wives to their husbands as their husbands are to them." Islam does not consider woman "an instrument of the Devil", but rather the Quran calls her Muhsana - a fortress against Satan because a good woman, by marrying a man, helps him keep to the path of rectitude in his life. It is for this reason that marriage was considered by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) as a most virtuous act. He said: "When a man marries, he has completed one half of his religion." He enjoined matrimony on Muslims by saying: "Marriage is part of my way and whoever keeps away from my way is not from me (i.e. is not my follower)." The Quran has given the raison d'�tre of marriage in the following words:<br />
<br />
"And among His signs is this, that He has created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them; and He has put love and mercy between you. Verily in that are signs for those who reflect." [Noble Quran 30:21]<br />

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) was full of praise for virtuous and chaste women. He said:<br />

"The world and all things in the world are precious but the most precious thing in the world is a virtuous woman. He once told the future Khalifah, 'Umar: "Shall I not inform you about the best treasure a man can hoard? It is a virtuous wife who pleases him whenever he looks towards her, and who guards herself when he is absent from her."<br />
<br />
On other occasions the Prophet said:<br />
<br />
"The best property a man can have is a remembering tongue (about Allah), a grateful heart and a believing wife who helps him in his faith." And again: "The world, the whole of it, is a commodity and the best of the commodities of the world is a virtuous wife."<br />
<br />
Before the advent of Islam women were often treated worse than animals. The Prophet wanted to put a stop to all cruelties to women. He preached kindness towards them. He told the Muslims: "Fear Allah in respect of women." And: "The best of you are they who behave best to their wives." And: "A Muslim must not hate his wife, and if he be displeased with one bad quality in her, let him be pleased with one that is good." And: "The more civil and kind a Muslim is to his wife, the more perfect in faith he is."<br />
<br />
The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) was most emphatic in enjoining upon Muslims to be kind to their women when he delivered his famous Khutbah on the Mount of Mercy at Arafat in the presence of one hundred and twenty-four thousand of his Companions who had gathered there for the Hajj al-Wada (Farewell Pilgrimage). In it he ordered those present, and through them all those Muslims who were to come later, to be respectful and kind towards women. He said:<br />

"Fear Allah regarding women. Verily you have married them with the trust of Allah, and made their bodies lawful with the word of Allah. You have got (rights) over them, and they have got (rights) over you in respect of their food and clothing according to your means."<br />

In Islam a woman is a completely independent personality. She can make any contract or bequest in her own name. She is entitled to inherit in her position as mother, as wife, as sister and as daughter. She has perfect liberty to choose her husband. The pagan society of pre-Islamic Arabia had an irrational prejudice against their female children whom they used to bury alive. The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) was totally opposed to this practice. He showed them that supporting their female children would act as a screen for them against the fire of Hell:<br />

It is narrated by the Prophet's wife, Ayshah, that a woman entered her house with two of her daughters. She asked for charity but Ayshah could not find anything except a date, which was given to her. The woman divided it between her two daughters and did not eat any herself. Then she got up and left. When the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) came to the house, Ayshah told him about what had happened and he declared that when the woman was brought to account (on the Day of Judgment) about her two daughters they would act as a screen for her from the fires of Hell.<br />
<br />
The worst calamity for a woman is when her husband passes away and, as a widow, the responsibility of maintaining the children falls upon her. In the Eastern World, where a woman does not always go out to earn her living, the problems of widowhood are indescribable. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) upheld the cause of widows. Most of his wives were widows. In an age when widows were rarely permitted to remarry, the Prophet encouraged his followers to marry them. He was always ready to help widows and exhorted his followers to do the same. Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet said: "One who makes efforts (to help) the widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior) in the path of Allah, or like one who stands up for prayers in the night and fasts in the day."<br />
<br />
Woman as mother commands great respect in Islam. The Noble Quran speaks of the rights of the mother in a number of verses. It enjoins Muslims to show respect to their mothers and serve them well even if they are still unbelievers. The Prophet states emphatically that the rights of the mother are paramount. Abu Hurairah reported that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: "O Messenger of Allah, who is the person who has the greatest right on me with regards to kindness and attention?" He replied, "Your mother." "Then who?" He replied, "Your mother." "Then who?" He replied, "Your mother." "Then who?" He replied, "Your father."<br />
<br />
In another tradition, the Prophet advised a believer not to join the war against the Quraysh in defense of Islam, but to look after his mother, saying that his service to his mother would be a cause of his salvation. Mu'awiyah, the son of Jahimah, reported that Jahimah came to the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "Messenger of Allah! I want to join the fighting (in the path of Allah) and I have come to seek your advice." He said, "Then remain in your mother's service, because Paradise is under her feet."<br />
<br />
The Prophet's followers accepted his teachings and brought about a revolution in their social attitude towards women. They no longer considered women as mere chattels, but as an integral part of society. For the first time women were given the right to have a share in inheritance. In the new social climate, women rediscovered themselves and became highly active members of society rendering useful service during the wars which the pagan Arabs forced on the emerging Muslim Ummah. They carried provisions for the soldiers, nursed them, and even fought alongside them if it was necessary. It became a common sight to see women helping their husbands in the fields, carrying on trade and business independently, and going out of their homes to satisfy their needs.<br />

Ayshah reported that Sawdah bint Zam'ah went out one night. 'Umar saw her and recognized her and said, "By God, O Sawdah, why do you not hide yourself from us?" She went back to the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it while he was having supper in her room, and he said, "It is permitted by Allah for you to go out for your needs." The predominant idea in the teachings of Islam with regard to men and women is that a husband and wife should be full-fledged partners in making their home a happy and prosperous place, that they should be loyal and faithful to one another, and genuinely interested in each other's welfare and the welfare of their children. A woman is expected to exercise a humanizing influence over her husband and to soften the sternness inherent in his nature. A man is enjoined to educate the women in his care so that they cultivate the qualities in which they, by their very nature, excel.<br />
<br />
These aspects were much emphasized by the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him). He exhorted men to marry women of piety and women to be faithful to their husbands and kind to their children. He said:<br />
<br />
"Among my followers the best of men are those who are best to their wives, and the best of women are those who are best to their husbands. To each of such women is set down a reward equivalent to the reward of a thousand martyrs. Among my followers, again, the best of women are those who assist their husbands in their work, and love them dearly for everything, save what is a transgression of Allah's laws."<br />
<br />
Once Mu'awiyah asked the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him), "What are the rights that a wife has over her husband?" The Prophet replied, "Feed her when you take your food, give her clothes to wear when you wear clothes, refrain from giving her a slap on the face or abusing her, and do not separate from your wife, except within the house." Once a woman came to the Prophet with a complaint against her husband. He told her: "There is no woman who removes something to replace it in its proper place, with a view to tidying her husband's house, but that Allah sets it down as a virtue for her. Nor is there a man who walks with his wife hand-in-hand, but that Allah sets it down as a virtue for him; and if he puts his arm round her shoulder in love, his virtue is increased tenfold." Once he was heard praising the women of the tribe of Quraysh, "...because they are the kindest to their children while they are infants and because they keep a careful watch over the belongings of their husbands."<br />

The Shari'ah regards women as the spiritual and intellectual equals of men. The main distinction it makes between them is in the physical realm based on the equitable principle of fair division of labor. It allots the more strenuous work to the man and makes him responsible for the maintenance of the family. It allots the work of managing the home and the upbringing and training of children to the woman, work which has the greatest importance in the task of building a healthy and prosperous society.<br />
<br />
It is a fact, however, that sound administration within the domestic field is impossible without a unified policy. For this reason the Shari'ah requires a man, as head of the family, to consult with his family and then to have the final say in decisions concerning it. In doing so he must not abuse his prerogative to cause any injury to his wife. Any transgression of this principle involves for him the risk of losing the favor of Allah, because his wife is not his subordinate but she is, to use the words of the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him), 'the queen of her house', and this is the position a true believer is expected to give his wife. In contrast to these enlightened teachings of Islam in respect of women, Western talk of women's liberation or emancipation is actually a disguised form of exploitation of her body, deprivation of her honor, and degradation of her soul!<br />

The official Twitter account of the Australian navy’s adviser on Muslim affairs was shut down within days of an official complaint by an anti-Islam group about its content, Guardian Australia can reveal.<br />

Captain Mona Shindy, the chief of navy’s strategy adviser on Islamic affairs, had been active on the @navyislamic account until it was deleted around 22 December.<br />
<br />
Shindy, who also heads the Guided Missile Frigate System program office, had angered rightwing activists with her tweets, including one on 22 October describing the newly launched Australian Liberty Alliance (ALA) as an “extreme, ill-informed fringe group”.<br />
<br />
Days after Tony Abbott was deposed by Malcolm Turnbull she tweeted: “Looking forward to a #PM that unites #auspol & #OZ”.<br />
<br />
The 26-year veteran also expressed support for Australia’s grand mufti, Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohamed, who was attacked by government ministers for referring to “causative factors” behind terrorism in a press release expressing condolences for November’s Paris terrorist attacks.<br />
<br />
Shindy wrote from @navyislamic, the “Official Royal Australian Navy Islamic Advisor Twitter account”, that Abu Mohamed was a “righteous and courageous man” who had denounced Islamic State, adding the hashtag #IStandWithThe Mufti.<br />
<br />
The head of the ALA, Debbie Robinson, who has previously described Islam as “a dangerous ideology” incompatible with western society, wrote to the chief of the Australian defence force, Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin, on 10 December asking the navy to distance itself from the account or delete it.<br />

She explains: “I felt I should be actively generating good in the world for every ugly verbal bullet sent my way.”<br />

Ms Carson says the abuse she has received “ranges from requests to leave Australia, hope for my death, insults about my appearance (with a special focus on my hijab), accusations that I am a stealth jihadist, and that I am planning to take over the nation, one halal meat pie at a time.”<br />
<br />
Since setting up the donation scheme, Ms Carland says she now “barely bats an eyelid” when she receives trolling messages as “it represents nothing more than a chalk-mark on my mental tally for the next instalment to UNCIFE”.<br />

Non-Muslim Women Push ‘World Hijab Day - Feb 1’ To Undermine Western Opposition

World Hijab Day is part of a major effort supported by Muslim Student Association (MSA) to foster empathy toward Muslims and Islam in America.<br />

“People see a veil, the hijab, but people don’t understand why we wear it,” said Doha Medani, a sophomore at North Carolina State University (NCSU), reports The Technician, the school’s newspaper. “My hijab is how I represent myself to the world: as a Muslim, first and foremost,” Medani said.<br />

“The first thing people see … is my hijab. It makes it clear to the world, or whoever else, that I’m Muslim… it tells people a lot about who you are,” she added.<br />
<br />
The campaign, however, is spurring protests from Americans. For example, two Muslim women penned a December op-ed at the Washington Post in which they say the hijab campaign is intended to hide Islam’s sexist political agenda, and urged Americans to stand against Islam’s ideological oppression of women.<br />
<br />
“Journalists and media outlets must stop making the mistake of defining hijab as ‘headscarf,’ furthering a sexist propaganda campaign to equate the two,” wrote Asra Q. Nomani and Hala Arafa.<br />
<br />
In the name of ‘interfaith,’ well-intentioned Americans are getting duped by the agenda of Muslims who argue that a woman’s honor lies in her ‘chastity,’ pushing a platform to put a headscarf on every woman,” the Muslim women added. “Please do this instead: Do not wear a headscarf in ‘solidarity’ with the ideology that most silences us, equating our bodies with ‘honor.’ Stand with us instead with moral courage against the ideology of Islamism that demands we cover our hair.<br />
<br />
Hijabs are tight or loose headcloths that leave the face uncovered. They’re a less restrictive version of the face-hiding burkas imposed on Afghans women, or the eye-revealing niqabs forced on Saudi women, including Saudi journalists.<br />
<br />
Advocates of the Hijab campaign downplay their Islamic political goals, and instead portray their campaign as a women’s solidarity event.<br />
<br />
“It’s like a ‘Walk a day in their shoes’ type of thing, for women to wear the hijab and see what happens, how things around them change when they are viewed as a Muslim woman — to step into that and get that perspective,” said NCSU senior Hoda Abrahim. “So you can empathize in a way, or just better understand it.”<br />

At NCSU, the school’s MSA and Women’s Center jointly allowed non-Muslim women the opportunity to wear the hijab and share their stories about their experience.<br />

World Hijab Day was billed as “an open invitation to Muslims and non-Muslims to experience the hijab for a day.” Ads for the event were clearly aimed at attacking negativity toward Muslims and proposals to limit their immigration due to concerns about terrorism from Islamic jihadists.<br />

“Before you judge, cover up for a day,” read one ad. “Covered by choice, not force,” another read, tying to countering the widespread view that Islam oppresses women. Yet another featured a woman in a hijab with the message, saying “Beautiful, confident, empowered.”<br />
<br />
The Penn State Berks MSA hosted “World Hijab Day” and advertised a “free scarf for female attendees, a tutorial on how to wear the hijab, and a free lunch for all who attend.” Participants were asked to wear the hijab for the entire day and send their stories about their experiences to the school’s MSA president, reports Penn State News. A prize was awarded to the woman who submitted the most “engaging submission.”<br />

At Texas A & M, biology junior Salam Yamak told The Battalion, “Anytime you sit down with someone and you have a conversation and you show them what your religion is all about should be casual like this,” she said about marking the day. “It creates a better environment and so we can better show the true nature of Islam.”<br />

“Whenever you have Islamophobia or any other group that is seen as different it’s because of people not having enough knowledge or having enough experiences with Muslim people,” Yamak added.<br />

Similarly, chemical engineering senior Danielle Gore said Islamophobia must be fought through dialogue that shows how peaceful Islam is as a religion.<br />
<br />
“Especially for people who have only seen negative portrayals of Islam in the media and that’s what this holiday [sic] is for, to create a dialogue and to ask questions and to humanize a group of people who have been dehumanized,” he said. “Even if we do get some crazy people who yell things at us when we’re walking around campus we have definitely seen the goodness come out from our fellow Aggies by showing us support, despite the rhetoric that’s been created.”<br />

World Hijab Day was launched in 2013 by Nazma Khan, a New York resident who hoped to change the image of the hijab as a sign of oppression of women of Islam. The day has been especially marked on college and university campuses.<br />

“Revert” is the Islam term for “convert,” and illustrates the orthodox Islamic claim that everybody is born a Muslim, but many are led away from the Islamic lifestyle, or “deen,” by their parents and non-Islamic societies.<br />
